MARIJUANA BUST NUMBER ONE- page four
As I was saying I had some drinks at the bar and settled my nerves from the plane ride and picking up the suitcase full of joint and all that. At home were I was just talking about I could drive to the back of my house to take the herb in. By now the neighbors and the people on the street knew what I was up to but it didn't matter they were not going to dime on me by now we were cool, but I still tried not to let them see too much. There was different people I had to watch my house while I was away, some nice and some bad. It was still early and the house was empty except for my dogs that were real happy to see me. I hid the suitcase and took my dogs Tom and King for a walk, came back and put the herb in pound bags. It was gone the next day. A guy from center Philly I had done business with before called me and said he got some good joint for sale for four hundred a pound. I told him I would see him about seven tonight. When I got in Philly to cop, there were three guys and a girl there, I told them about getting busted ar the airport and that the lawer in Media said he could probably get me off with a year probation if I am lucky. They said they know a lawer in Philly who got their friend off who had been busted with three hundred pounds of pot. I said give me his name and I will call him tomorrow. They said his name was Richard Atkins. I bought forty pounds from them put it in two small suitcases and left. I was just as scared again outside in center Philly carrying the joint to my car I think as I was at the airport the day before. I had to walk two blooks to my car and I felt weak from it all and decided I will get someone else to carry the joint next time. The next day I was working on the pot bagging it up, it was real nice, sweet smelling and good smoking, the kind that everybody likes, the buyer, the seller, the smoker. I called Richard Atkins, the Philly lawyer and he said to come and see him today. I got to his office about 3 PM, it was in center city and it was very nice, it just happen to be his birthday and he was happy to see me. Have some cake, this is Cheyenne he told his office crew, he has a little problem with the police. Richard asked me to tell it all and I did, he said do you want to have something to eat a little later? I am meeting a friend and if you come we can still talk. We left his office and walked to a small street between Walnut St. and Spruce St., east of Ritten House Square. There was a small bar on the north side in the middle of the block. As we walked I said, how much is it going to cost me to get off? He said how much money do you have? After the lost of the 33 pounds at the airport I have $25000 cash left. I have more owed to me but I can't count that because there is a good chance it won't come back to me, $11000, will do it he said as we entered the bar. It was small inside and the bar tender welcomed Richard, I got a beer and looked around at the crowd. At first it looked like a motorcycle bunch, a lot of leather, and all guys except one chick. Richard was saying hello to some and they were looking at us. I thought a couple guys looked at me hard and I gave the look right back. I started telling Richard the price was good with me when I caught two guys in leather jackets kissing and that answered what was happing, a gay bar and I automatically wondered if Richard was gay. I didn't say anything and drank my beer and waited for the time we were leaving. When we got outside I told him my car is parked around the block and if we need it will go get it. When he got in the car he was laughing saying, Cheyenne this is a car. It was as I said earlier a 1969 Cadillac Fleetwood Brome with brown metal flake paint and a Burgundy colored interior, it was a big car inside. I told Richard I like to make my friends comfortable, which was the truth. We didn't go to far and we picked up his friend, he was young maybe twenty or so. We ate at a small regular restaurant and they talked. I didn't really listen I was thinking about my stuff I was doing. After we got back in my cad Richard said I sure could smoke a joint and the young guy in the back seat said I am rolling it. We all smoke the herb and it was good and I was happy with my new lawyer. The young guy got out on the street some where and I took Richard to his home and dropped him off and went home myself felling better. I gave Richard the money and time went by doing the regular stuff and it was my day in court. Richard and I were walking to the court room in City Hall, there was different people saying hello to him and I could tell they all liked him, it gave me comfort. He said there is 450 judges in Philly and I got us in front of a judge that don't like drug dogs smelling you bags at the Airport. There were all kinds of people in the court that day. When it came my turn, the DA. was questioning the detective from the airport and as he was telling the story I realized that he wasn't even one of the two detectives which actually approached me at the airport, I had never seen this guy before in my life. I whispered to Richard and he said cops lie all the time. There he was under oath telling how they were checking the bags from the south and the Judge didn't like it already. He wanted to know why it was just the south they were checking. The Judge was black and I figured mabe he was from the south. After a while he said; wait a minute is this another dog case? When they told him yes he removed himself from the case saying how much he hates dog cases. Richard told me he was hoping the Judge would have the case thrown out, but he didn't and we would continue the next time which was about three weeks later in front of another Judge. This time for some reason the DA didn't have something and we had to come back again. Richard said they would notify me when to come back to court. About three weeks later Richard called me and said it was over. I said are you serious and he assured me it was. It seems he was talking to the new Judge who was friendly with him and they agreed the case was taking to long and the Judge dismiss it. The DA's office wrote an appeal that got in front of the Judge about two weeks later, but the Judge stuck with dismissing the case. I threw a big party at my house and put it all behind me. I had decided that it was time to stop flying pot; we would drive it from now on. I figure you should get about two hundred pounds of pot in a 1976 Chevy's trunk, sometimes two hundred and twenty-five. The End PS. Not much time passed and Sensimilan was in, Columbian was a thing of the past. The guys in Jamaica were selling Jamaican Sensimilan to the smugglers who would buy one thousand to seven thousand pounds for around $2.50 a pound and sell it in Miami for about $900. a pound and the guys in Miami were selling it for $1100. to $1300. a pound. By the time the herb got to the North East part of the country it went for $1500. to $1800. Also the Mexican Sensimilan on this side of the river in the Rio Grand Valley the American Mexicans sold for $550. a pound. Some of them Mexicans had some Indian blood in them from the mountains across the Rio Grand River, they were bigger in stature. There was an emigration check point to get out of the valley about a hundred miles north of the border you got to get past, so by the time the herb gets to Huston Texas, it was going for $750. and by the time it got to the NE. its was the same price as the Jamaican pot $1500. to $1800.
